During festive season like Chinese New Year (CNY), most big brands come up with various CNY messages which the netizens are looking forward to watch and share to their own personal social media pages.

1. Maxis CNY 2020 - The Most Unforgettable Chinese New Year
Genre: Drama
This ad talks about the struggles of a daughter who didn’t surrender in supporting her father who has dementia. The story became more interesting when the daughter showed about the memories of her and her father through her phone. The reactions shots used by the editor was epic. It gave justice to the whole video ad.
One of the contributory factors that made the ad really amazing was also the choice of music background which compliments with the flow of the storyboard. It was well coordinated including the usage of back-lights, establishing shots, and low angle shots. The story-flow also shows how photos can make everyone remember the past.
Congratulations to the whole creative team. This ad was one of the most viewed CNY 2020 ads this year.
2. TNB CNY 2020 - #RealityNotVirtual
Genre: Comedy- Drama
This ad is a story of a young man who can’t go home because of his work. With the help of a virtual reality machine, the young guy was moved into a “deep teleportation” as if he was in their house meeting his family with all those creative effects ongoing in the real world.
The most touching scenery from this ad is when he hugged his boss and his boss responded accordingly despite all those troubles happened inside the office. The boss still managed to hug the main character and said "haiya- go home lah" in a very understanding manner.
The storyboard and cinematography was really well done.
3. CNY 2020: HUATever you want, Grab got!
Genre: Comedy- Fiction
This ad is concentrating more on the Tai Chi moves by the characters of the commercial ad as they deliver their lines. Those martial art moves made the whole short film funny and interesting.

The whole commercial achieve a fantastic comedy genre for this ad.
4. PETRONAS CNY 2020 –寶被 “Bao Bei”

This is a story of how old clothes recycled together by a Grand Ma as a present to her grandchild. The ad made it more interesting when all those cut-out cloth from old clothes were talking to each other as they were group together by the main character (Grand Ma) through sewing.
The cinematography shows the message of “family gathering”- A piece of you, piece of mine will bring joy to the family.
The video ad used Penang Hokkien dialect which made it more different from other CNY creative ads. The material is also suggested to have a subtitle in English to be understood by different viewers.
5. #HLBCNY2020 – The Grown Ups’ Table
Genre: Comedy
This is a story of a young girl who wants to be part of the "Adult Table" during the CNY reunion gathering. Through determination, she researched and took down notes of those so-called ‘adult talking points” during normal conversation.
During the CNY dinner, everyone was shocked by her make-up and outfit at that time but to her dismay, her father instructed her to keep an eye to her little siblings but her mother noticed that their son can already feed himself which made the story more interesting.
6. The First Nike Chinese New Year Ad (2020)
Genre: Comedy
This is a new challenge for NIKE. The whole cinematography was absolutely well done. The storyline is actually simple. It only shows about an Auntie who wanted to give angpau to her niece.
The delivery of the short film was well coordinated with how the brand supported the character from young until the little girl become adult. This commercial ad was refreshing as the creative team managed to blend a running shoes into a CNY celebration topic. Those angle shots including the after-effects used were phenomenal. The eye expressions shots of the characters made it more interesting too. It was well done.

This is a story about hope. It is a real-life story of a young girl who has a sibling with cerebral palsy. She started baking since she was four years old to raised funds to support her sister's need.
One of the eye-catching scenery in this ad is her created muffin with a red broken heart with a small blue heart on top. The shot of that baked muffin heart represent love, sincerity, and hope for her sister.
Cheers to the creative director and to Chef Leah for sharing her amazing and inspiring story.
8. Every Gift Becomes A Blessing When You Do Something About It (Prudential Life)
Genre: Drama- Comedy
This creative ad is most likely a short film. it is also one of the most viewed CNY commercial ads this year. The motion picture showed the history and some old photographs of how the shop owner does tasty noodles. The delivery of the material was fantastic as the father wanted the son to learn the traditional way of doing their noodle.
One day, the father was shocked as the son posted a photo of him doing the noodle. He was not happy about it. He was afraid that their recipe might have been copied by their competitor. But actually, the earlier part of the film shows that they are not well known. They don't have many customers.
With the help of social media, their noodles were known by the netizens. Truly, social media nowadays is one of the latest technology that can make your business grow. It can also break you badly.
Once again, this story shows how social media works.
9. MR. DIY CNY 2020 - The Gifts Unnoticed 看不见的用心
Genre: Drama
This short film is more about the gesture of being kind to everyone. Since money nowadays is hard to find, the storyline of this ad is showing that you don’t need to donate a huge amount of money if you can’t afford it. You can give your contributions by doing good things for the community.
The most touching story here is when the character (guy) sacrificed his seat to a pregnant woman in a bus stop. The same guy also sacrificed his umbrella to give to another person to use- that being said is a gesture of being kind person.
This simple gesture of kindness will make the world happy and a healthy living place.
10. His Grandfather’s Road (Singtel)
Genre: Comedy
This film is showcasing how a typical Chinese speaks in English. Their accent is very strong that makes the whole short film unique and genuine. Some of the clips in the films were quite funny:
When a passer-by took a photo of the two families which is about to fight. The reaction of the characters was great
A different scenery of how a woman can control the family and how a man can control the family
How a soap opera can unite everyone
And also the word: “My second auntie's husband's brother's sister-in-law's cousin”— the author cannot figure it how the man in the character said 5th degree
