Food Review for Daifuku Restaurant 大福日式餐厅 Taman Daya 福林园

Updated: Sep 8, 2020

Today’s food destination is at Daifuko Japanese Restaurant in Taman Daya, Johor Bahru. This shop was founded in 2015 and now offering Japanese cuisine to Malaysians and other working expats around Johor Bahru particularly those nearby to Taman Daya. Let's find out how was the experience:

THE FOOD:

We ordered most of the dishes even before the announcement of MCO in Malaysia. This time around, let me just feature some of their dish that we frequently ordered. Let us talk about their Grilled Fish Set with Japanese Sauce, Chicken Cutlet Set, and Salt Grilled Mackerel set.

Their Grilled Fish Set with Japanese Sauce as well as their Salt Grilled Mackerel set was sensational in terms of textures, tastes, smell, and price. The fish was well marinated with their herbs and spices and it truly gives great smell and taste when it served to us. The fish is not too soft and oily which for me was not overdone during meal preparation. FYI, the fish is boneless- so this dish will be friendly to everyone.

The salt level is not that strong and it complimented well with their soft Japanese rice sprinkled with black sesame seeds. The rice is soft and it really nice to mixed with their fish with its Japanese sauce or even their salt grilled mackerel set.

One of Daifuku's special/ seasonal chicken set.

Meanwhile the chicken cutlet set is also competitive in terms of taste and texture. The dish is not too much with seasonings and the taste of the chicken is prominent with its crispy skin. This for me is nice to mixed with their thinly sliced cabbage. It is good in my palates. The bitterish taste coming from the fresh cabbage is complementing well with the savoury and crunchy skin of the chicken. I would say the technique the chef used here was successful. I kinda like it.

Since we ordered a set meal, they have their soup and other side dish. Since I am a lover of a Japanese Seaweeds, I always order the same thing. I love their crunchy and smooth Japanese Seaweed salad. I always love this as a combination to my set meal.

Their soup compliments the set meal. It is not oily and salty. It is just nice to the whole set be it chicken or fish.

As a finisher, I always look forward to their passion fruit juice (I think its B062) which I found refreshing after taking their whole set meal. Just to mind you, the set is a powerhouse meal.

With this experience, I would rate those dish as 9.5 out of 10 specially their Grilled Fish Set with Japanese Sauce.
