As the season of Hari Raya is approaching, let me tell you a story about our experiences Ramadan Exploration here in Johor Bahru.
May 7, 2019 right after the Awal Muharam was the start of Ramadan. The first week was just as normal as the olden times. But to let you know, Ramadan Bazaar is one of the best highlights of the year that you can explore and witness specially when people from all walks of life and even other nationalities join the crowd to hunt for their favorite food stuff.
So far I have been to Taman Suria, SMART Pandan, and also at Pasar Borong Pandan to explore their Ramadan Bazaar. I heard a lot of stories about good Ramadan Bazaar in Johor Bahru and so far, these three places were one of the most common and most visited Bazaar in Johor Bahru.
TAMAN SURIA
This is located just beside Giant Supermarket at Taman Suria. At exactly 4.30 pm, cars started to get crowded along the area as the place is very packed. It is very happening until 7-8 pm.
This place is popular for all sorts of Halal food from different races such as Malays, Indians, Arabs, and Indonesian. To name some, the food were basically includes Nasi Ayam Penyet, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Arab, Nasi Ayam, Seafood’s, Satays, grilled chicken, murtabak, sandwiches such as roti ayam, roti daging, and different type of fruits drinks, and a lot of different kuihs and deserts.
Over all, this is one of the biggest Bazaar Ramadan in JB that can accommodate up to about 5,000 people in just 3 hours.
There are a lot of trafiic officer volunteers who secures the flow of every cars coming in and going out from the said place.
SMART PANDAN (Beside Tebrau Highway)
SMART Pandan is a wide place for everyone to explore. But this year (2019), people were talking about how crowded the place (beside McDonald) due to the different displays of halal food.
Majority of the food being displayed here were grilled chicken, murtabak, ayam percik (it is a dish that is marinated with turmeric, lemongrass, cumin, coconut milk and spices before the roasting the chicken), crispy crabs, sup tulang or daging, nasi lemang and many more.
This place started to get crowded as early as 4 pm as people start buying their food at the said place. Right after 7-8 pm, the stall owners started to clear their area since they already finished selling their food stuff.
Traffic will be a bit relax at round 8 pm as the place is no more crowded.
PASAR BORONG PANDAN
Pasar Borong Pandan is considered as one of the most happening Ramdan Bazaar in Johor Bahru. People gathered around this are not only for food but also to witness the different display of garments around the parking area inside the market.
People start to crowd this place at around 5 pm until midnight to buy and hang around the area to shop for a cheap but quality clothing including shoes. The place is also lighted up with a lot of displays form each of the exhibitors inside and out of the Pasar Borong making it as one of the most happening Bazaar Ramadna in JB.
People hang around this area to shop for their newest Baju Gurong, Baju Melayu (set), new pair of shoes, slippers, at an affordable price.
Joining to this kind of activities or even to just walking around is somehow refreshing for the family especially if you have nothing to do at night. Stroll around the area and who knows you can find cheap yet quality garments which you wouldn’t think you can find in a Pasar Borong.
