In my visitation to Terengganu way back 2013 during my involvement to an international community engagement project, one of the destinations that we had visited was this Turtle Alley along Jalan Kampung Cina (pronounce as ‘Chena’) in Kuala Terengganu.
It came to my mind to include this is as part of my Malaysia trip for my Terengganu Series Tourism Story in line to my #Jomtaraletssupportlocal when I was given the permission to include the captured photos from my in-law during their adventure to this place few months ago year. She was able to get a better visual around the area.
Turtle Alley has opened in 2011 and it featured various types of turtles that is commonly known for the state of Terengganu. The narrow alley was actually the first alley in Malaysia that is decorated with different types of turtles on both walls including the pathway.
Terengganu’s mascot (the sea turtle) dominated the decorations you can find here. This place is recommended for students and for everyone to understand more about turtle and why they are important in the underwater world ecosystem.
I would say that this is a MUST visited place in this Kuala Terengganu. Day time around 8 AM to 11 AM or 5 PM to 7 PM are the recommended time to roam this place. Avoid going here around 12 noon to 4 PM because the weather is quite hot.
As a traveller, the icon that you can recognize going to this place is a statue depicting a turtle hatchling emerging from its egg shell while the other side is a big mosaic showing two green turtles swimming at a seagrass bed.
How to get Here?
If you are coming from other states, Terengganu can be reached by domestic flights or by land or sea transport. But if you are mainly coming from Kuala Lumpur, the recommended option for you is either through plane or express bus service.
That time, our group took express bus service which took about 6-7 hours (I think) to reach Kuala Terengganu. The journey was quite relaxing as the express bus we used was a double decker with an executive chair so it not that tiring althoughout the journey.
Upon reaching Kuala Terengganu bus station, the best option for you to take is taxi or grab car. It is very accessible as most of the drivers know about this spot.
If you are driving, don’t worry. You will not lost. You can use any navigation app to locate this area. The place has an ample parking space along the waterfront, so parking would not be an issue for you.

Totally agree-- we need to support our own turtles-- we have to protect them.
